CFS Name Change Advisory Committee Grows This week we welcome Dr. Nancy Klimas, MD, to the CFS Name Change Advisory Committee. Dr. Klimas, who has dedicated much of her career to solving the mystery of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, heads up a center for CFS studies at the University of Miami School of Medicine. As one of the world's leading authorities on CFS, she is also president of the International Association for CFS (IACFS), and co-editor of the Journal of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Dr. Klimas joins a team of other widely published, quoted, and respected CFS experts in the U.S. - Dr. Daniel Peterson, Dr. David Bell, Dr. Leonard Jason, Dr. Charles Lapp, and Dr. Lucinda Bateman. It is clear that the present name is trivializing, demeaning, hurtful, and possibly discriminatory. Who could argue that the label Chronic FATIGUE Syndrome does not conjure up images of someone who needs more sleep? And when you consider the CDC's report that 25 percent of patients with CFS are disabled, it's clear we're talking about a very serious and devasting disease. We'll soon be at the point where patients can discuss the name suggested by the Name Change Advisory Committee. If we embrace it we'll start organizing and mobilizing. We control our own destiny and it's up to us to right this injustice. Sincerely, Rich Carson ProHealth Founder and CFS Patient PS: To the hundreds of people who have written to volunteer their time and talents for this work so far, we'll be in touch. Stay tuned, take good care of yourself, and keep the faith. |

To quote a few who are already "with the program": - Do your little bit of good where you are. It's those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world. - Desmond Tutu
- Wherever there's a human being, there's an opportunity for kindness. You don't have to plan some big event. You can be strolling the hall in school and say "hi" to a stranger. Simplicity is the way, you know? - a student
