Genomic research has focused on studying the map of the normal human genome. Chronix's technology is based on the detours the human genome map takes when confronted with viruses or other toxic environmental exposures. Chronix refers to these detours as "reshuffled genes."
Chronix's science has been highlighted in this week's release of the new book, "The Virus Within," written by award winning ABC News science and medical reporter, Nicholas Regush. In describing the research, Regush comments, "If science hopes to unlock the mystery of how chronic diseases occur, it seems likely that the emphasis will have to be placed on better understanding how viruses might help to orchestrate changes in the body's genetic programs."
"'The Virus Within' does an excellent job of explaining our recent genetics work," said Dr. Howard Urnovitz of Chronix Biomedical. "We are beginning to unravel the mystery of how the environment around us acts upon the environment within us through a process of gene reshuffling." Urnovitz testified last month to the Congressional Subcommittee on National Security, Veterans' Affairs and International Relations on gene reshuffling and chronic diseases.
Chronix has already filed patents on the platform technology of detecting reshuffled genes. Under the proposed strategic alliance, Hemispherx and Chronix will jointly develop intellectual property on new products for diagnosing the various stages of gene reshuffling, using a panel of simple screening and confirmations tests for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) and all its associated maladies including Gulf War Syndrome (GWS).
